So wonderful! This is the first-ever film version of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland,” filmed in 1903 - 37 years after Carroll wrote the novel and a mere 8 years after the birth of cinema. Brilliantly, the British Film Institute National Archive has restored the film’s original hues and been able to salvage approximately 8 minutes of the original 12-minute film.

A hundred years later, the eccentric genius that is Tim Burton has released his cinematic version of Carrol’s novel in what promises to be a record-shattering adaptation. I can’t wait to see it, but for now I’ll be admiring the BFI’s wonderful work. You can read more about it here.
